Just recently updated to full coverage on the ‘ bird to reflect its status as a moble vehicle. Surprisingly affordable. Roughly 47$ a month for decent coverage, listed to drive about 1000 miles per year which seems pretty darn accurate for the mean time. 10k insured value, which should about cover parts. A little slop for my labor, but doesn’t really account for that....

For those in the dark, you may want to get declared value insurance on any car older than maybe 20 yrs old, as the “ blue book” value likely won’t reflect reality. Any modifications will likely only add to this. Personally, I feel loads better knowing exactly what would happen in this situation even if the reality would still be pretty damaging.

I like how fancy hagerty feels compared to geico. Even if it really isn’ t.

I have Hagerty on the Camaro too. It’s a  lot cheaper than what regular insurance companies wanted.

Give ICBC the finger for me. $47/mo! Add  a zero to convert to BC$.

All canadian cars should be registered in Quebec, and its a fact. I pay 305$ a year on the camaro, as a 19yo guy. Obviously not full coverage, but that would still have only been 82$ a month.

19 + Camaro ? Add a zero to the PQ full coverage price and you’re in the ICBC ballpark. Batshit insane.

Nice, I’m trying to switch to them soon too. How’s the “insured value” process? Do you just put in a number and they cover it, or is there a negotiation based on market values?

A buddy of mine just went thru the hassle of getting his old volvo registered here, and now I completely understand. I thought it was just Ontario level bad but not that ridiculous!

It’s straight up organized crime. They have a monopoly because it’s illegal to buy your liability insurance from anyone else, then they somehow lose millions if not billions a year anyway . T hey raise the rates to offset their incompetence, year after year, and still can’t figure it out . Just keep fleecing the working stiff and hope for the best is their motto.

My car isnt a good example. Nice T/As sell for like 22k, so mine is likely under their threshold. They didnt even ask. I think if you exceed an “expected value” or have a unique vehicle they would ask for receipts or an appraisal to justify or some other proof. I would expect you would also be on the hook if it was even slightly debatable in an accident even if they dont ask, or for fraud if it was excessive. Insurance companies are not your friend, document document document.

Edit: I just told them 10k and they said “ok”

Interesting. Right now I’m in a vicious fight with Progressive about my E30's value. As soon as I get through it I’m switching to a classic policy, and Hagerty seems to be the most popular option. I assumed that any “debate” with Hagerty would be had at the beginning, not when I’m claiming a loss - that’s why they call it “agreed-upon value”. They certainly do good PR, but you’re right - can’t ever tr ust an insurance company .

I think at least with hagerty wou are much, much less likely to get in a fight later though since it is their specialty. Most big insurers don't care for anything that doesnt fit their mold.
